The Columbine addition was conceptualized with the classic mullet idea of Business in the Front, Party in the Back. The existing home was built in 1910 and represents a typical Denver classic home that you would want to preserve rather than scrape and build a modern stucco box. Our challenge was to design an addition to the rear that represented our clients’ dynamic personalities. We created a stark contrast using sleek juxtaposition of modern clad boxes to create interior and exterior living spaces. The rehabilitation and addition are designed with a high-performance building envelope. New insulation throughout, a new air barrier and windows utilizing the latest building science throughout the new and old promised to create another Denver jewel
