Overview

Our clients came to us with a 2 bed, 1 bath, 856 SF brick bungalow built in 1896 wanting to maximize interior square footage, and add functionality to the home. Ultimately, only the bones were kept, as the home was completely gutted. Bonsai Design+Build reconfigured the floor plan, ending up with a 2 bed, 2 bath + 425 SF loft space. The loft area was achieved by vaulting the existing ceiling and restructuring the roof to create an additional office or living space.

A building envelope upgrade was performed, by furring in the exterior brick walls, sealing those with foam insulation, and installed new windows throughout. The exterior was given an upgrade as well, as the old brick was showing significant signs of wear. The brick was re-tucked and painted to give the home a distinct, yet respectful look in the neighborhood.
