Four Day Work-Week

Did you know that BONSAI employs a 4-Day work week?

One of the main pillars of BONSAI’s work-life balance is a 4-day workweek on the Architecture side. As a General Contractor, BONSAI employees are often times need to engage in construction hours, that is 7am-3pm. By extending the day to 7am-5pm employees are able to achieve a 40-hr workweek in 4 days. The payoff of this is that every Friday is technically a non work day. This allows a greater flexibility in free time, life events, recreation, and general down time. In addition to this anecdotal evidence of the benefit of a 4-day workweek, Forbes, Rueters, and the World Economic Forum have all published beneficial evidence.

A study conducted by Statista in the UK survey ~3,300 workers over 73 companies recently concluded that nearly 46% of leaders reported productivity staying the same and 34% said productivity slightly increased. Another study from Autonomy of 2,900 workers showed 39% reporting lower stress levels, 71% said they were less likely to burnout. “When compared to a similar period from previous years, organizations reported revenue increases of 35% on average.”

In addition to being a positive more for employees and companies, a 4-day workweek is also better for the environment. “With one less day at work, commuting time per week was expected to drop and that’s just what happened, falling from 3.5 hours to just under 2.6 hours – 27% lower. But a bigger surprise was an overall reduction in people commuting by car, from 56.5% to 52.5% of employees.” This means that in addition to the decreased carbon emissions, a small portion of employees made the switch to alternative modes of transportation when the did commute.

BONSAI plans to continue this standard indefinitely.
